Event Safeguarding Policy

1. Introduction This Safeguarding Policy outlines our commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals participating in [The Irish Festival Village and St Patrick’s Day Parade] (the “Event”). We recognise our duty to create a safe and inclusive environment, free from harm, neglect, and abuse. This policy applies to all event staff, volunteers, participants, and attendees.

2. Responsibilities All staff and volunteers must:

  • Adhere to this safeguarding policy and procedures.

  • Report concerns regarding the safety and well-being of any individual immediately.

  • Promote a culture of respect, inclusion, and safety.

3. Code of Conduct All individuals involved in the event must:

  • Treat others with respect and dignity.

  • Avoid inappropriate behaviour, including bullying, harassment, or any form of abuse.

  • Maintain professional boundaries with all participants, especially children and vulnerable adults.

4. Safeguarding Procedures

  • Reporting Concerns: Any safeguarding concerns should be reported immediately to the designated Safeguarding Officer.

  • Confidentiality: All reports will be handled sensitively and in accordance with data protection laws.

  • Emergency Contacts: Emergency services should be contacted in cases of immediate danger (999 in the UK or equivalent emergency number).

5. Protecting Children and Vulnerable Adults

  • Any staff or volunteer working with children or vulnerable adults must undergo background checks (e.g., DBS checks in the UK).

  • There should always be at least two responsible adults present when working with children or vulnerable adults.

  • No personal contact details should be shared with children or vulnerable adults.

6. Risk Assessment and Safety Measures

  • A thorough risk assessment must be conducted before the event to identify and mitigate potential risks.

  • A designated first aid team will be available throughout the event.

  • Clear procedures must be in place for lost children or vulnerable adults.

7. Training and Awareness

  • All event staff and volunteers must undergo safeguarding training before the event.

  • Safeguarding policies and procedures will be communicated clearly to all relevant individuals.

8. Review and Compliance This policy will be reviewed annually or following any safeguarding incidents to ensure continued effectiveness and compliance with legal requirements.
